Accidentally discarded activity

Several times I have discarded an activity accidentally. I stop an activity and then somehow manage to accidentally do two taps and then my activity is discarded. Is it possible to retrive this?
As Garmin uses fat32 file system, then I used restore programs and managed to to get this file (.fit), but uploading to garmin connect does not work (file not suitable).
Is there any way to retrive discarded acitvity?

In general Garmin could automatically save every activity and could offer deleting them later, not immediately after activity.
  • Not the most savy with computers.

Well, you recovered a deleted file. Most wouldn't have a clue how to do that.Slight smile

This should work for you - 5504._CIF4917-fixed.zip

Unzip the file then import into Garmin Connect using the import data page.

Starting at around 4 km there were several timestamps that were not in in chronological order, which caused the file to be corrupt. I was able to fix that using using Fit File Repair Tool.

  • Wow, that worked. Thank you so so much! I forgot how cranky I get when I lose an activity after a decent effort Laughing You're a total life saver! Definitely turning auto lock back on for activities

  • Speaking of having activities deleted unintentionally, has anyone suggested a more complicated delete process to garmin in order to remedy this with their next software update? Both times I've had this issue it's been when running in pouring ran, I hit the button to stop and try to save it, but with all the water on the screen, I'm basically out of control whether the device decides to save or delete it. For example, if you needed to hold the button for 10 seconds to confirm delete or something like that? Do we think garmin would be willing to make a change like that? Or is the watch too old for them to explore a change like that to software?

  • Hi seilogramp, I accidentally discarded an activity this morning and have recovered it with Recuva but it  says...

"Comment: This file is overwritten with "D:\GARMIN\REMOTESW\EPO.BIN"

    6 file cluster(s) overwritten (21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26)"

Do you think there's any chance of salvaging it? Even if I could get the total elapsed time it would help as I know it showed as 3.59km when I stopped it.

    Thanks

    Andy

  • How do you all manage to mout the Garmin device as a disk? In Mac for me it auto-starts Android File Manager and does not show up as a disk. In windows 10 it does show as a mounted device, but can not be choosen in any file-recovery program. I have a Vivoactive 4.

So I have tried around 7 different file recovery tools, both Mac and Windows, but in non of them I can choose the Garmin device. Even when I in Windows can see it in the Explorer, but then in the software it is not showing.

  • I have had the same problem. Tried to recover the file on Mac according to other posts, which I think was successful as I now have a file on my desktop, but I can't open it. Can anyone help?

You wouldn't open it directly. You would drag and drop the file on to the Garmin Connect Import Data page.

If you get any message other than Import Complete, then there is a problem with the file. In that case, please zip the file and attach it to this thread. We can look at it to see what might be wrong and possibly repair it so it is accepted by Garmin Connect.

  • I found out that newer Garmin devices such as my Vivoactive 4 only connects via MTP protocol and can not be mounted as a drive, and therefore can not be used with any file recovery program Mac or PC. I managed to get the data of my ride from Google timeline instead, I converted the KML file to a GPX file and then added timecodes with this generator: https://gotoes.org/strava/Add_Timestamps_To_GPX.php This depends on having your phone with you and timline tracking on. Also, use the function "snap to road" in Google Timeline before exporting.

Not a perfect solution since the speed i calculated as an avarage so I got some KOMs in very steep hills, made the ride private so not showing on leaderboard, but the distance was spot on and most important was included in my Rapha 500 ;)

I guess above will not work that great on MTB or other off-road rides.

  • If I recall correctly, I wasn’t able to simply open the file. I just needed to go into garmin connect and attach the file as an upload and then you should have your activity back!

  • Hi,

Happy new year to all of you !

Unfortunately, I had a discarded activity. I managed somehow to recover the fie, but it won't upload to Garmin Connect, seems to be corrupted.

Attached is the file, if by any chance you can fix it, thanks in advance.
