I had to disable my ad blocker to get the second authentication screen to pop up. Interestingly enough it would NOT work in Firefox even with ad blocking disabled. But Chrome worked.
Deactivate all ad blockers. I just removed them and a pop-up window opened asking me to allow Garmin to harvest data from MyFitnessPal. That helped to resolve the issue and they connected
