Is Garmin quality control going downhill?

Finally decided to bite the bullet and comply with the latest FAA requirement for ADS-B in my airplane. I needed an avionics upgrade anyway, so I decided to go with Garmin equipment. A GTX-335 transponder with Garmin Altitude Encoder and a Garmin GTR 225 Communication radio to replace my 1950's equipment. Took the airplane to an avionics shop in another state, they acquired all the equipment for the upgrade. After the initial installation, transponder failed the bench test - bad encoder from Garmin. Replaced. Transponder still failed the test. Turns out it was a bad transponder - factory new from Garmin. Got a replacement. Couldn't get the Communication radio to work, after testing, found out that the radio was bad - from the Garmin distributor. The odds of 3 pieces of Garmin equipment bad, straight from the factory, is like 1:100,000,000. I find that unacceptable. What the heck is going on with Garmin?
  • I thought that at least avionics and marine products are their top products and only the team that is behind sports equipment produces poor products... I was wrong... The whole forum is full of complaints and nobody from Garmin cares. Really weird company.
  • Hmmm, crazy weird that everyone on a product forum would be complaining about problems they are having. Almost makes you wonder if that's the whole purpose of having a forum

Mike9685 We sent you a Private Message yesterday to try and get a little more information about your experience. If you are able to reach out to that Private Message our Aviation team would love to work with you directly.
  • Their trucking GPS which has a ton of data that has to be accurate to keep drivers off of roads where they will get massive fines has absolutely gone to crap. Ever since their last update about 90 days ago the unit is damn near worthless at a little over $500 each. We drivers are thoroughly pissed.
