Allow user to edit First Use date for Gear

There have been several occasions where I have not had time the same day or few days to add my Gear for my activities (like when I am traveling) so my First Use date is actually inaccurate. Because of this, I can't associate the Activities with the Gear that I have to sometimes wait to add several days later. I'm not sure why this is locked down, or what other impact this would have on the application, but it seems like it would be a benign and straightforward change. I feel like this is a piece of data that you could trust the user with. If not, maybe just make Gear available to all Activities regardless of whether or not its First Use date is violated?
  • When I create a new piece of gear in Garmin Connect I have no problems assigning any date from the past, although it is indeed not possible to revise the date after that piece of gear has been created.
  • rdog36, if you made a mistake when you created the gear item, as a user you always have the option of (first acknowledging your mistake to yourself, and accept the consequence of inconvenience, then) deleting the gear item and creating it anew with the correct First Use date. If you blindly accepted the entry creation date as the default First Use date, then that's another mistake you need to reconcile with, and discipline yourself not to repeat it.

same here, i recently added a pair of cycling shoes several days after i'd started using them and put the date i'd started using them in without any problem
  • First use date should not even be a user field, it should simply be the date of the first activity you used that gear on, end of the story.

  • Why is this date not editable after it is set?  deleting the gear and then setting a new one with the correct date means you need to edit all the activities to use the new gear profile.  That is a lot of work.

  • Well, it looks like Garmin will NEVER do this. It's been 4 years since this thread was started.
Besides, Garmin has not responded in this thread, so this is the wrong place to suggest changes to anything.

  • Yea...  I didn't see the date of the post until after I posted.  They are not a consumer led supplier.  I guess they feel to content in their market position.
