App lag and stuttering

I'm running Garmin Connect on an iPhone 6s having just bought a Vivoactive 3.

The app has extremely high levels of lag - higher than any other app I've used on my phone (and I must have used hundreds). Switching screens takes anything upto three seconds, even scrolling the main 'My day' screen stutters and jerks and getting out of the app by pressing the home button takes a couple of seconds.

I'm very surprised by this, I didn't know iPhone apps could be this unresponsive. Does anyone else find this? Is it some temporary issue which Garmin are working on or has it always been like this? Currently, it's barely usable.

I've tried both restarting the app and restarting the phone.
