Badges / Points are demotivational and not well thought out.

I understand the 1 pt badges are just to get you to familiarize yourself with features.

However _ I am trying to move toward better health and was excited and motivated to get my first few badges and levels.

But now I notice that there are really no more badges I am capable of getting aside from the 60day step goal, the 40k and 50k Step badges, and a handful of 1pointers. If I get sick, or work extra long shifts (it doesn't count steps when I am at work on my feet all day because my path around a central table never gives me enough steps at one time to count), or for any other event beyond my control that keeps me from making a goal one day. So at this pace I will hit my next level sometime over a year from now.

Lastly the point system is horrible. Why would something twice or three times as difficult be the same number of points?

For someone like me who can use every bit of motivation to stay on track I find this point/ badge system to have the opposite effect. I find myself saying why bother. Shame on you Garmin for giving us a badge system to motivate us but designing it in such a way that It cannot motive those of us who need it the most.

It would be nice if the weekly challenges gave points. I don't really have any Garmin friends to compete with and those that I do have are well beyond my fitness level and so I cannot possibly compete with them and win any points. But if Garmin set up step challenges with people of similar numbers and gave points for winning I think that could go a long way toward making levels and point meaningful. As we move toward health we are paired with others of the next level..... Oh and make some bages attainable to those of us who struggle.

This has really soured my opinion of Garmin and their products.

I agree, e.g. at level 3 its nearly impossible to gain more points without heading to marathon plus distances or wingsuit trips...not really motivating
  • I thought this as well. Some badges are USA only as well.

A repeatable 1pt badge for coming 1st in the weekly steps challenge would be good. I know Garmin is mostly about running but it would be nice to see some more badges for things like mountain biking and hiking. I mean whats the Drone one all about.
  • Agreed. I preferred the old badge system, the new one is a step backwards. There used to be step badges, there still should be. Garmin could do it like the military does with it's ribbons, award a 1 million step badge, then every time you get another million get a star added to it, an oak leaf cluster, whatever. Then a 10 million, a 25 million, the key is that these should be repeatable to infinity.
