How do I change the shoes for a given workout?

Hi,

I recently bought two pair of running shoes and added them to Garmin Connect. The second pair (blue) is currently set as my default for everything. But I want to be able to switch back and forth, which was the purpose for buying two pair.

I can't find anywhere on the watch (a Garmin 235) or in the GC app that allows me to select the shoes for a given workout. I'd ideally like to be able to make this selection before a run on the watch itself... but it doesn't seem to be available there. So I'm hoping somewhere in GC I can make this selection after the run.

Any idea how to do this?

  • Indeed, it is not possible to pre-select gear before activity, but after upload you can assign or rearrange gear in Garmin Connect when you click the "Gear" field below the activity title.
  • tmk2 thanks for the reply. When I look at the workout in the GC app, I do indeed see the Gear section by tapping on the shoes, but nothing I do at that point lets me select the other shoes. Tap and long-press don't do anything, and the only things to tap on are "Edit" (which just lets me edit the shoes' properties) and "Activities" which brings up a list of workouts in which they've been used.

    What am I missing?
  • Ah, the mobile app. I was talking about the web version of Garmin Connect.
    Well, anyway, in the mobile app when I enter the activity, there is this context menu accessible by the three dots in the upper right corner, or by pressing the menu button on the mobile phone. There you have "Add or remove gear". This is how it looks on Android. I don't know how it looks on an iPhone.

    The (logical association with the) shoes – or any other gear – you used on a particular timed activity is an attribute of the activity record, and not of the gear item itself, so to change the association for a particular timed activity, you should be looking at the options in the vertical ellipsis menu for the activity record, and not in the Gear database/section.

    Also, if you're using an Internet-connected mobile device such as a handset or a tablet as your preferred physical user interface, always remember that you can still access Garmin Connect on the Web using a browser on that device.
  • tmk2 ASmugDill thank you! Vertical ellipsis menu is there in the app, and contained the add/remove equipment option. I misinterpreted its context before, but it all makes sense now.
