Improve OpenStreetMap Maps in Garmin Connect

Whereas I love connect plattform, I hate its OpenStreetMap (OSM). Being an OSM contributor and enthusiast I love the fact that Garmin has OSM as one of their available maps (which are free, not like Google's). Unfortunately, their custom styling is one of the ugliest and useless I've ever seen, far away from Suunto's custom map or Strava's or other OSM custom maps like Thunderforest's outdoors map (http://www.thunderforest.com/maps/outdoors/), Stammen Terrain (http://maps.stamen.com/terrain/) or OSM's default and cycling layer (http://www.thunderforest.com/maps/opencyclemap/).

It is for that reason (and because creating a custom OSM rendering is relatively straightforward) that I would like to see an improved OSM map in Garmin connect.

Below you can see some screenshots of different OSM renders that display the same area at different zoom levels and the same information (some of them have outdated information, though).

  • A magnifying glass is needed to see your photos.
  • Not wanting to start a new topic and as I'd also like to see Maps improved in Garmin Connect, I'd like to add to your post the following:

Modify Garmin Connect allow their maps on the PC version to go full screen. The old Garmin Connect (before "Modern") enabled you to expand the screen. Now all you get is magnification within a set area so you lose the whole route. This is totally frustrating and makes the whole program in my opinion very unsatisfactory. It really doesn't take much coding to add the ability to expand to whole screen in my opinion. Seeing my splits is about the only useful part of the program. I've been a user of Garmin watches for years in triathlon and still use the 910XT.
