Merge Activities from Multiple Garmin Devices

I have been a Garmin user for many years, going back to the original Forerunner, and now using the Fenix 5 and Edge. I have often used multiple devices to record workouts, usually a web based application along with my Garmin device and always had to choose which application to save. Now that I'm doing more biking than running, I'm using the Edge and the Fenix and it's a little annoying that Garmin Connect sees the input from these devices as two separate activities. It seems that Connect would give an option to combine these activities or recognize that they are the same activity occurring at the same time. I'd even be willing to pay for a premium service that would give an option to do this. I"d like to be able to record the heart rate and fitness data from the Fenix and the other activity metrics from the Edge. Doesn't seem like it should be that difficult to do.
  • I have a similar issue. If I only use the Edge for a cycle, Garmin Connect won’t use the metrics to update the fitness status - it records the activity, but doesn’t recognise that you have recieved any ‘training’ benefit from it. I came in from a 6 hour hard ride yesterday & Garmin Connect tells me that my training status is ‘Maintaining’, my training load is decreasing and that I have zero recovery hours!
  • I am looking for the same functionality. Would like to see Garmin connect reverse sync to my forerunner 645 with data from my Edge 520. At a minimum would help keep data I track on the watch face like calories accurate on days I ride. Only way I know how to do this now is to run bike mode on watch simultaneously with Edge, but like others say you end up with the same activity uploaded twice, posted to strava twice, etc.
  • I am about to face the same issue, fenix 5 and edge 520 i think that i will not sync the EDGE and use the activity from the fenix, is it there any new workaround about this ?
  • No supposedly about it - FFRT will allow you to merge the .fit files regardless of what device they have been recorded and saved on.
  • I don't think the remote display is an answer expcially becouse on the edge i use some displays that are not avilable on the fenix, therfore in this case the remote display just fails ! The remote display should just send the data rather then the display structure and data.
  • Now this is a surprise for me because I am shopping for a biking GPS computer with active maps I may need for longer days touring this incoming next season.
Last year I was extracting data to a G Connect on my cellphone, from my Vivoactive3 tracker watch, all the 2018 activities looks pretty good populated so far.

Speculating now if I use both the VA3 watch and the new Edge GPS unit as a slave only (to prevent getting two separate activities) then what is a point cashing out a larger chunk for a new Edge, I can just keep using the cellphone for GPS active mapping and my problem may be solved buying only some good looking handlebar mount?

Facing the same issue with Forerunner 645 and Edge 530. No solution yet?

  • Facing same issue using vivosmart 4 and edge 25. The reason I bought these is because I assumed this is something the app could do. No solution yet?

  • Exactly the same issue. Edge 530 that picks up my powermeter and fenix 5 includes heart rate. I'd like to combine them.
