2018 Garmin free map EU features

Hi I have just updated the free map software that comes with Garmin Edge Touring Plus from 2017 to 2018 versions and it now displays lots of features, especially in towns, with eateries, car parking and stuff that just takes up space. I only want to navigate, plan and record so is it possible to get rid of additional features that I did not notice before on older version? I am a new user to Garmin so only just getting started - first thing I did was get on Connect and update but wish I had not bothered!!

Page 5 of the manual, set Map Detail. The information takes up space but your activities will need only a tiny amount of free space on the device.

Tried changing from MOST on map detail level to NORMAL etc and it will not select

In fact can anyone help as none of the selections in the MAP section on the TRIP PAGES will change!! Can anyone help? I only have standard maps supplied of INTL standard base, Garmin Cycle map EU 2018.10, Geocode map EU 2018.10, Garmin DEM EU 2017.20 and EU SW cycle map 2018.10
