Garmin Chinese connection?

WHY is Garmin Connect now requiring scripts from 'baidu.com' and 'sapi.map.baidu.com' be allowed to run in order to display content on Garmin Connect?

I run NoScript in Firefox browser, so I am able to easily see the script requirements. Recently, Garmin Connect began requiring these two scripts to run or you'll just get a blank page in Garmin Connect.

I don't know enough to see or understand what these scripts are doing but it doesn't sound good to allow scripts from China.

Better not let Trump hear about this!

Yep, same here in Ireland. I couldn't add the Activities tab unless Baidu.com was permitted as Trusted.

What's the latest on this? It appears the script was fixed for the activities, but courses is still trying to run a baidu script? Same experience on all browsers.

Moderator- this is still an issue. Any ETA on resolution or is China subsidizing Garmin to access the many DoD users of Garmin products?

Garmin Connect serves customers in China and those users use Baidu maps due to legal restrictions for our other mapping providers. The script was not intended to be loaded for non-China based customers. We continue to work on a fix for our next production release.
  • apparently over 2 years the "next production release" did not happen. I'm in California and I keep getting redirected to garmin.cn. The maps are not loading or loading extremely slow. The slow load of the maps is affecting loading the entire workout. All names are in Chinese.

  • This is 3 years later and my anti-virus software just blocked and attempt from Basecamp to run an script from baidu.com. What the heck is going on? Why is Garmin trying to run scripts on my computer from a Chinese server that is considered to be a threat by security software?!?!?!? It makes no sense.
