Am I at death's door?

I'm 56 and I started using my Vivosmart 3 at the beginning of July, so only about 3 weeks ago.

The first time it gave me a Vo2max reading, it said I had a fitness age of a 60 year old. Fair enough, I thought, that's why I've got it, to motivate me to exercise and give me some positive feedback about my progress.

So I started to walk a lot more. Even the occasional jog. Eventually the hard work paid off and I was rewarded with a Vo2max reading that said I had the fitness age of a 57 year old.

Spurred on by this I continued to exercise.

I was looking forward to the next reading. I'd check it every day, looking for the moment when my fitness age fell below my real age. Finally after miles of walking, the third reading came.

67.

So my question is, is my Garmin trying to tell me that I'm at death's door and that exercise is futile?

No, you're not a deaths door.... yet!

The VOo2max readings a calculated from running and cycling ONLY. Walking makes no difference to the calculations.

I'm 52, got my Fenix 5 in February and started running two or three times a week (after 30+years of being far too sedentary) in April. Since then I've lost about 6 kilogrammes in weight and my Fitness Age is now down to 35.

Keep it up what your doing and throw in some regular running sessions, even if it is only 5k runs and I'm sure you will notice a difference quickly enough.
