Activity Name Changed.....

The activity name for this run used to be Stone Mountain Running. For the last few months it has been Dekalb County Running. There are a lot of places and cities in Dekalb county. I know I can edit the name after each run but why did it change? Is there a setting for this?

Thanks...Al

• Once in a while Garmin makes changes to the automatic naming algorithm, which can give unexpected results in some locations. Automatic naming can be disabled, but there is no setting to make it work different.
• Thanks...

I have a Forerunner 935 -- where do I make the change to disable automatic naming? Is it on the watch or in the Garmin Connect web page? I looked in the owners manual for the 935 and didn't see it.

• It's one of the Garmin Connect settings. It is totally independent of the watch.
• Thanks, found it in "Account Settings / Display settings." The default is "Location and Type" and it does have a warning about the location, see snapshot. Although in the example it lists the city of Chicago and not the county it is in. It the location algorithm picked the city that would be better.

There is another option for "Location and Device Activity Name." Couldn't find any documentation or help but will give it a try just to see what the difference is. Probably will be about the same...

And the option for "untitled" is also there.

• I submitted a ticket to Garmin Support about the "location" change and asked if they could go back to the city instead of the county.

When Garmin Connect names an activity, it is set up to use the "Location and Type." This used to work fine and would name my activity "Stone Mountain Runing." For the last few months it has been naming the runs "Dekalb County Running." There are many cities in Dekalb county and it was MUCH better when it used the City Name. It looks like you have changed the algorithm that picks the location. And I don't see any setting that will allow me to get it back to the city name. Please advise if there is something I can do. Or please update the software to go back to the CITY name or provide an option for the user to choose. Regards, Al

Support Reply:
Hello Al,
I would be happy to assist you with this. Garmin has recently changed how we do location lookup and naming. While we believe this is an improvement for most customers and have no immediate plans to change the methods, we will continue to evaluate based on user feedback. I apologize for any inconvenience. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you for choosing Garmin,
Dan

It does in some locations. Where I usually run I get better results with the new naming method.

Not documentation per se, but I've explained and illustrated it here: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/garmin-connect/104720-multiple-bikes?p=1348671#post1348671
