Edit activity log later if I forget to hit “stop”?

Former Member

Every so often after a recorded hike/bike, I realize I didn’t stop logging it when I jumped back in the jeep... so my hike shows me suddenly moving 25 mph back down a canyon... screws up everything.

Any way to edit & trim back the activity so I can force it to end when it should have, rather than when I remember to stop my watch?

Thanks,
Brian

  • If you edit the time, it will automatically cut off all the other bits so if you know your final triathlon time then you can just enter that (or keep removing bits of time until you get to the point where you peak drops off on say your distance etc.). It only works with editing time, you cannot cut by distance or by steps for example... just the time you want it to stop or start... this can be found by going into your activity in the connect IQ app on your phone, then 3 dots top right, Edit Activity (do not edit your activity here as it is just a number) but there is a Trim Activity button under your Time and Distance . Click on the Trim Activity and you will get your total time, trim start, trim end and a graph to help you find a point you want to trim (though you cannot use the graph but just take the time from it and enter it). Once done, hit save and it will trim off the distance and other stats after the time you state. Hope this helps!

  • I recorded a triathlon and just forgot to hit stop at the end

Trim is not available at Multisport activities. You would have to export each of the disciplines separately (as Original), delete the multisport activity, then import the individual FIT files for all three disciplines, and then you could trim the one you need. You could  not pack it back to a multi-sport activity, though.

  • Oh interesting, I only do single sports so outlined how to do that... good to know for future though I do question why that is a limitation? But good to know, Thanks.

  • why that is a limitation?

No idea, why they do not allow the Trim on individual disciplines of a multisport activity. Probably an omission, not a purpose.

  • It only works with editing time, you cannot cut by distance

BTW, if you speak about the Trim function, then you can trim both by the time, and by the distance, too:

  • I will keep quiet! I see there is a distance tab, you are absolutely right.... *goes back to his corner*

  • Don't worry. There are plenty of hidden features one discovers even after years of using. It is the same for everyone Slight smile

  • I guess it doesn't work when it's captured as a triathlon. When I go online it's not there and when I go into the app it's not there. I tried changing the time to the stop time that it should be and nothing else updated, not even the distance. So I updated the distance too but the map stayed the same as well. I got on the chat window with a support person and said that trim feature is not available for triathlon. Except when I check the list of what it's not available on triathlon isn't on that list. maybe they assumed when they did the code that the individual events would link to the edit tool when you pulled them up individually and just forgot to link that edit code correctly in the code. Seems like it'd be easy to make that adjustment possible.

  • Very true. Love Garmin products but their software release notes are a little sketchy and their development toolkit is a bit of a pain but as you say, nice to keep these little surprises happening :D

  • Trux mentioned that mutli-spot activities cannot be trimmed and would need splitting, sorry, I didn't realise this :(
