I want to run laps on a track...

...I always go run a certain number of laps an a running track. I want my 235 to keep track of my progress.
Instead of manually marking the track laps I would like to make a course.
Q: Is there a lap functionality? Where I can run ANY number of laps?
Q: if not, how do I desin, say, a 10lap course? the laps are just 400m, so if I try to draw 10 rounds of laps, I'll be out of space where to click without hitting a earlier click, in no time. Can't I just draw ONE lap and then somehow tell the course: This lap, but 10 times?

Thanks alot for helping a noob.
  • I don’t really think you want a course (even if you could make one with 10 loops) because a course isn’t going to take laps for you and there's no way to say "repeat course 10 times, and take a lap each time."

What you really want is a workout with 10 laps (based on distance). Of course the problem is whether you use gps, footpod or the wrist accel for distance, the watch will never record perfect distance compared to the track so your stats will be off.

One solution could be to use the Lap by Position data field. It automatically takes laps when you pass your start position:

Unfortunately Lap by Position can't write those laps to your activity file so you won’t see the data after the fact. It’s only for looking at your lap info in real time.

So you’re back to the original solution of pressing the lap button manually... TBH this is what I do for interval workouts.

Or you could use Run+ by the same guy, which has the “lap by position” feature and seems to have the ability to write laps because it’s a full app, but it’s a replacement for the built in Run activity so you won’t get the same level of customization (which might not matter to you):

Holly Molly, now that's what I call a satisfying answer! Everything I needed. Thank you very much!
  • Haha no worries. It's something I thought about a lot because I had the same problem....
  • You could upgrade to a 910xt which has the Lap By Position feature baked in
