Garmin Connect - Forerunner 305 stopped syncing

About two weeks ago my ForeRunner 305 stopped syncing via Express to Connect.

Both the device and Express say they are successfully syncing, but new runs have not appeared on Connect for two weeks. It's like Express is not syncing with Connect.

My runs are have stopped appearing on Garmin Connect. I use Express to sync. The Forerunner says "transfer complete" and Express says "synced just now". Connect says "Synced Jun 9, 2018".

There are a several runs since then that have not appeared.

I tried stopping Express and the Garmin Device Interaction Service, then renaming C:\ProgramData\Garmin and starting again, adding the Forerunner again as a new device and re-entering the Connect credentials.

I contacted Garmin support a week ago but got response apart from the automated email.

Any ideas?
  • Going to pull my Forerunner 305 out of moth balls to see if I can duplicate your issue. Also, suggest calling support to get a faster response.

    Thanks very much.

I had the Forerunner for a few years unused. I got it out and started using it with Express and Connect a few months. I would often have to sync a few times before the stats would actually appear on Connect.

There are no error messages - the device and Express say they successfully sync, but no new runs have appeared on Connect since 9 June.

I contacted Garmin support on 16 June but got no response apart from the automated email.
  • What operating system are you using? Windows 10, 7? Mac? Something else?
    • Charged both Forerunners 305 and 205
    • Did a hard reset, since there was data on there from years ago
    • Ran a short activity with the device, stopped and saved (holding reset)
    • Cleaned charging cradle contacts and contacts on the back of the watch with an eraser
    • From Windows 10 PC downloaded Garmin USB drivers
    • Plugged in and attempted to connect with Garmin Express v6.5.1 - No joy :(
    • Followed above steps on an old Windows 7 laptop and had success transferring and viewing activity in Garmin Connect - joy :)

    That's interesting, thanks.

Windows 10 installed cumulative update KB4284835 on 12-June, which is probably before my first failed sync.

I'm an IT Manager, so I'll rig up an old Win 7 machine for just for this. Hopefully Garmin update Express with a fix for this.

Thanks very much for spending time on this.
  • Ok, I managed to get it working on my Windows 10 workstation by changing to a USB 2.0 port, as discussed here. Also, check out the advice offered by pshare.

I don't think this is the USB3.0 issue. The 305 never did connect through the USB3.0 ports.

Both the device and Express say they successfully sync through the USB2.0 port, but the data doesn't reach Connect.

One of two things is happening, either:-
    1) Express connects to the 305, but downloads nothing, then uploads nothing to Connect, or
    2) Express is not talking to Connect

When you synced, did your test activity appear on Connect?

I've read through pshare's posts, but can't see anything relevant.

I'll try an old Win 7 PC, or a different Win 10 PC.
  • Yes, I verified that they are on Garmin Connect. Also, you might want to check Garmin Express to make sure it is syncing to the correct account and password.

I do appreciate your persistence with this!

I've reentered the same credentials in Express and Connect to check, and they are the same.

I've had no response from tech support to my request over a week ago, so I've sent another request today. Hopefully they'll reply and have something.

I'll wait to see what support say. Thanks in the meantime.
  • Calling support is going to be your best bet for getting assistance. Even if they do respond, there are always follow-up questions that could take weeks to answer.

I've had this same exact thing occur with a 305. Also windows 10.
My last sync was Jun 17th.
Now says it syncs but no data.
Not sure I have an old windows 7 computer but I'll check.

Please post if you find a resolution.

    Thx.
