Bike Rides do not count in Active Calories - BUG?

Hi,

I just realised that it seems like today Bike activity does not count towards "Active Calories"?

So today
Goal : 1600
Active : 160 (After 2 bike rides and 1500 steps)
Adjusted Goal: 1760

But my bike rides alone registered as 65 Cal + 164 Cal - so 229 cal?

MyFitnessPal imports the 229 exercise cal - (but not the 160 from general activities)

Watch: F5x FW9.20 - sync via Connect IOS latest.
  • MFP is not doing any importing - GC is sending the data.

GC sends workout info (description, start time, duration), and Total Calories burned so far with time stamp.

MFP does the math from there.

Since MFP knows about the workout, and the workout is contained in the Total Calories (at least MFP assumes it should be) - it basically subtracts it out of the math for adjusting eating level from exercise calories.

The 160 would show as an Adjustment - if you were exactly that much more active than MFP figured you'd be without exercise - unlikely to be that exact.
But the bike ride could have left you more tired and less active in general.
The bike ride could have used up time you would have been more active, but could not be since the bike ride is chunk of time labeled as a workout.

So a bike ride should count towards Active calories, but it may not go up as many as the bike ride causes - because you moved less in general.

Look at the MFP stats in Exercise Diary for that day - should have the workout, and an adjustment.
Press and hold on the adjustment on app version, or press the "i" for more info on web version.

What is the time and amount of GC sync?
Does the amount of exercise calories match what was listed on the workout?

What are those 3 figures, and the other 2 for Full Day Projection and MFP calories burned?
  • I know nothing about MFP, but I can tell you how it works in Garmin Connect:

When you log an activity, the calories for that activity will include your BMR calories - the calories you use by just staying alive.

So when Garmin Connect reports your daily calories as BMR and active calories, the BMR portion is first subtracted from the calories from the logged activity.

Calories from daily steps go directly into active calories, with approx. 30 kcal per 1000 steps. (Exact number probably depends on your weight.)

So my guess would be that you got 45 kcal from your 1500 steps. And you got 115 kcal from your two bike rides, after your BMR was subtracted from the logged 229 kcal.
