Accuracy of calories burned with activity

Today is my first day wearing my new Fenix 5. I wore it to my HIIT class this morning and it said I only burned 72 calories, where my fitbit ionic I had previously would say 150-300 typically. I'm only using the wrist based heart rate as don't have any add-on straps, and didn't plan on getting them for basic workouts. When I can I'll get the HRM-Tri/swim bundle for my tri training.

Is that normal for there to be a drastic difference from a fitbit on calories burned? Does it get more accurate as I wear it more and do more things? I don't know how many actual calories i burn during a 30 minute HIIT workout, but today's was quite the challenge and I have a hard time believing I only burned 72 calories.
  • I don’t know what would be the correct number, but I agree 72 kcal seems rather low for a 30 min HIIT session.

I would start checking that all user settings on your watch/Connect profile is correct and synced with the device.

Gender, weight and height is obviously affecting the calorie estimate, but so i also activity class.
Not sure, but maybe pulse settings is affecting as well. (Max/min and zones)

I'm not even sure I know how to check all that lol. My physical stats are correct, yes. I'm not sure how to set the activity class or pulse settings. This watch is much more advanced than my Ionic!
  • I’m not sure what’s possible to set directly on the F5, but both pulse zones and activity class can be set either in the app or in the web version of Connect.

Activity Class can be found in the general User Settings of your account (there’s also some guidance on which class to choose based om your activity level).
Pulse zones can be found in the User Settings subsection under Device Settings.

It's definitely better after wearing it for a week now!
