Vivosmart HR+ failed synchronization with Reason=412

Hi everybody,

I have a Vivosmart HR+ since January and it always synched perfectly every 3-4 days with the Garmin Connect app installed on Android 4.3 (phone: Samsung S3).
Everything was ok, but from the last week I can't sync it anymore.
The device is correctly paired with the phone (green dot appears in the app's menu, and the numbers of steps is the same in both the device and the phone).
The problem starts when I want to do a full sync, using the sync button on the app or on the Vivosmart HR+: the blue progress bar appears on the app, and after a few seconds of advancement it stops and becomes red.
In the synchronisation log I found the following message (it's the same everytime it fails sync the way I just described):

I can't find any explanation on what "Reason=412" means, and I can't find anywhere the file "3955510592_1_8004.tmp" (I searched inside the folders /Garmin/New Files or /RemoteSW of my Vivosmart HR+ but there isn't any .tmp file, even hidden). Please help me because I really don't want to lose all the activity I did during last week without synchronization. Thanks
  • I'm sorry, here's a better version of the log:

  • do you have any solution for this problem? I have the same problem ....
    Thanks and best regards
  • I think I found myself a way to get through this issue (thanks to Garmin for doing nothing......) just yesterday morning (27-06-2018). Here's what I did:

    - connect to PC via USB your Vivosmart hr+, so it goes on "charging mode" (NO time or date on its display)

    - sign in in your Garmin Connect account (on connect.garmin.com webpage)

    - on the top right of the page, click the "Device and Sync" icon (the very next to "Profile & Account" icon), and then on "How to sync your device"

    - download Garmin Express for Windows or Mac, then install it on your PC using the same Garmin Connect username and password

    - run the program on your PC, it should recognize the Vivosmart still connected to PC; click on the relative icon, and if it doesn't sync automatically, then follow on screen instruction (it's very easy); the program will sync (and update the firmware if necessary; in my case I didn'need that) of the device.

    - when it ends synchronisation, a successful message appears. Then click on the Garmin Connect icon on the Garmin Express program: it will open a new and updated tab on your internet browser with all synched information

(- Once installed Garmin Express, I synched "manually" more than a couple of times, clicking on "Sync now" button, everytime with successful message. I think you need just once........)

    - open Garmin Connect app on your phone, DON'T turn on bluetooth on phone nor on Vivosmart, so you are sure the app will update his data via internet.

    - Once all data (Garmin Connect via web on PC, and via app on the phone) are synched, log out to Garmin Connect webpage, close Garmin Connect app, close Garmin Express program (be careful it still run in background), unplug USB of Vivosmart

    - turn on bluetooth both on phone and device, open Garmin Connect app and start a synchronisation. NOW IT SHOULD WORK.

After doing all of this, in the evening I recorded an activity (I run outside using GPS), and after that I synched the app via bluetooth without problem. While I'm writing this, I am checking if it still works, and I can confirm that.

Hope this guide can be useful, let me know if you don't understand something or have some problem.

I am disappointed that a lot of people in the App store complained these kind of issue since 1st june and Garmin didn't speech a word on how to solve it. I lost two weeks of data (activities are still recorded, but steps, sleep, heart rate...... all gone) waiting for an official response. Let's help each other.
  • thanks a lot for this detailed text. I just deinstall the App on my Samsung and reinstall the App. I dont know why, but the syncro works now.
Two weeks ago i already do this step (and other tries) and it doesnt works.

I hope it will work now for the future.

if not i will try your description! Thank you
