Gear: sub-categories

Hey folks, can you add more detail? For instance under bike add "chain" or allow user titles? It would be great to be able to track the miles on chains, fork and shock service intervals etc. Love how the system automatically track miles for each bike would be terrific to have that feature extend to consumable components on the bike.

thanks!

Ray.

Great idea. Just curious - in the meantime, could you use the "Other" category?

I set up my pedal power meters and my trainer as "Other" and have them automatically added to all my cycling activities. I ride more indoors than out, so I just remove the trainer from outdoor rides.

You can add multiple pieces of gear to any activity at any time, and have multiple pieces be automatically added as well.

When I replace a component I'll add the new one in there as "Other" and have it automatically added as well.

It may not be as slick as other tracking mechanisms, but it works for me. It could work for you, depending on your use cases.

Some things that would be nice though...
    * Group items so you can have them automatically added to activities or removed as a group.
    - Grouped items could also be assigned to a bike, so that they're added to an activity whenever that bike is.
    * Automatically add certain types of gear to indoor rides only, or outdoor rides only (e.g. never add a trainer to an outdoor ride, but always add it to indoor rides).

This could get real complicated real quick. Off the top of my head, some components subject to tracking could include:

    Frame
    Seat Post
    Saddle
    Handlebars
    Bar Tape
    Fork
    Stem
    Front Wheel (and spokes)
    Rear Wheel
    Front Tire
    Rear Tire
    Pedal
    Crank
    Front Derailleur
    Rear Derailleur
    Chain
    Front Brake Pads
    Rear Brake Pads
    Front Brake Fluid
    Rear Brake Fluid
    Cassette
    Chain Rings
    Brake Cables
    Shifter Cables
    Batteries (for electronic components)
    etc... etc...

I really like this idea, but like I said... real complicated, real quick.
