It's possible that I'm a bonehead and not doing anything correctly, so any help would be appreciated.
I have a course, a simple loop around a park. I created it from an activity and the average time listed at the top says 9:52 min/mi (which is the time of the activity that I created it from.) I've tried navigating against this course (Run > Navigation > Courses > [pick course] > Do Course) and I've tried training against this course (Run > Training > Race an Activity > Downloaded > [pick course] > Race) and the average time never changes. If I create a new course by hand on the Garmin Connect website and sync it to my watch (a Fenix 5x) and try to race it, it never receives an average time.
Almost all of my activities have a course tagged in Garmin Connect, but the average time never changes. Is it just that I have to manually enter an average pace and it never, ever updates from my actual times? That seems crazy.

As an aside, the training against a course feature is pretty annoying. I just want it to count the time getting to the course as a "warm up" and after I complete the course as a "cool down" and while on the course to show a virtual partner. This seems like something almost everyone would find useful, but if it exists I have no idea how to activate it. All of the functionality exists -- navigating knows when you're on the course, training has the partner -- but it's not put together in the most useful way. Pretty disappointing. Does anyone have a solution for this that works for them?
