Notification Widget - some ideas to improve

If Bluetooth does not fail, notifications on Garmin Devices are simple & functional. In short - a real added value. But - the widget itself seems limited to a screen and offers only one function - jump to the message. With several messages, you even have to navigate to the complete list again. Suggestions:

.) Message content: After the sender there is usually only a shortened subject readable. I often have to read the message to see enough content of even short messages. A compact mode would be fine: no message symbol (profit: one line) and a narrow font - doubles the content - done.

.) Actions: If I see in the overview that a message can be deleted/dismissed, I would like to do this directly. Swipe, Double-Tap, Long-Press - all these actions could be taken to shorten the navigation on the watch.

.) In the message: Compact mode did not bring me enough content? Tap - and I'm in the message. Fine. The only way to start an action on the message now is to scroll through the whole message. Massively annoying scrolling through disclaimers for nothing. A Swipe, Double-Tap, Long-Press at each point of the message would be a dream - direct navigation into the menu of possible message actions.

Anyone with me?
  • Generally if i see i've got a notification on my garmin device i check the actual message on my phone
  • Anyone with me?
Do not mistaken an event notification (e.g. an incoming message has been received) for the event itself or its object; they are not logically equivalent. The notifications widget on Garmin devices was never meant to be an interface for the user to directly interact with the app that is generating the notifications (cf. handling incoming calls, which is not done through a widget). Just because you may have been spoilt by the Notifications Centre in the operating system on your mobile handset, which allows you to directly interact with the notification-generating app that is also running on the handset, you ought to remember that the Mail or Messaging app does not actually run on the Garmin device, and your watch is not a functional user interface for such.
  • I agree totally - the main device is still the handset, actions "fired" on the watch (in my case a vivoactive 3) will only trigger the appropriate execution on the handset. My post is more about handling (where and when do I have the possibility to execute according actions on a message) and information density (compact). In other words - every function is already implemented on the watch, but it's usage isn't optimized (in my opinion).

How about a white list option for notifications? When I'm performing an activity I really only want to see notifications from certain people. (i.e. my wife letting my know she's beat me to the finish line - again <sigh>)
