Trusty 305 + Garmin Express won't upload to Connect

I have an old Garmin 305 that still works, so I am going to use it until that is no longer the case. I took a running break for about a year and I'm back at it. I have several runs stored on the watch which I can see via its interface. When I plug it into the computer, the Express software notices it and "syncs" it to Connect. It says it completed successfully, however when I go to Connect, I still only see my runs up until last year, none of the runs from the watch have actually been synced. Things I've tried:

* reboot computer
* reboot watch
* different USB plugs
* reinstall Express

There are no errors or anything and I'm unsure what I can do to figure out whats going on here (are there logs somewhere?). Any ideas are greatly appreciated as I really want to wear this watch out.

  • Make sure that you are pointing to your Connect account in Express for the 305. Although it may be shown as a device in Express, if you hadn't used it in a year, it's possible that Express lost the login parameters during that time.

    This has happend to me. After one of the updates, Garmin Express lost my credentials and wouldn't sync activities to my account until I reentered my username and password.

    Thanks for the suggestions. I did log out and log back in via the Garmin Express tool and it does the same thing, which is to say nothing. I did notice that the Express software says I synced today, the Connect software says the last time I have synced was in 2016.

    Are you on Mac or Windows?

    I have recently resurrected my 305 (hoping it would magically turn me into an athlete). I have 3 macs, 2 running El Capitan and one on Snow Leopard. The 2 on El Capitan run Garmin express, alas Snow Leopard not supported. Express seems to sync with no faults, but no upload to connect whatsoever. Surprisingly Basecamp on the Mac has no problem syncing but does not include HR data. Persistent contact with support draws a blank. They are adamant that El Capitan, 305 and Express/Connect are supported. The assumption was a problem with the 305.
    I then loaded up an old windows laptop with Express. Hey presto, complete functionality. I'm loath to use the Windows machine as my 12 year old macbook (snow leopard) is far more useable than a 3 year old windows laptop.
    As the macbook won't support Express, I managed to find the software disc for the old Garmin Training Center. Loaded this on and also provides full functionality. So its not the 305 at all.

    So in result, Garmin have dropped support for the software that was working and not provided support to the new software that is the only option now. Quite disappointed. I know the 305 is a 9 year old device but its still in great working order. Makes me think twice about purchasing another Garmin if it means I'm required to upgrade due to support being dropped.
