Been using a 235. 75 year old male. Have a VO2 Max reading of 35. It shows this as "POOR That's the bottom 15% for your age and gender". I am stunned! Can this be right? User profile set as Max HR 158, Resting HR 57 which are accurate. The other 85% must be robots!! Any thoughts please?
I'm not quite sure how such a thing is possible, but my guess is that your VO2max is correct - but the "good, fair, etc" category and comparative data is off... somehow.
You can see in this chart that a 75 year old male with a VO2max of 35 should be neighborhood of "Excellent"
Thanks Herman. That chart is encouraging! And confirms where I believed I should be. And as that is a Garmin chart, there must be something amiss with my 235 (or my profile?) for it to give a different interpretation than their own chart. My birth year on watch is set as 1943, but on G/Connect Mobile, the Age readout is blank? Anyway .....thanks for the reply.
Contact Garmin support then as the problem likely lies somewhere in Garmin Connect. Check your date of birth on Garmin Connect on the interweb and see if that will come down GCM.
Thanks. For some reason my date of birth was blank on Garmin Connect (but it was correct in the watch). Entered & saved DOB in GC, and all is good. My VO2 Max 35 is now showing "GOOD & top 30% for age." Appreciate the help.
I have only been using the VA3 and the Android Connect Mobile app to set my personal info however based on this thread I logged onto Garmin Connect web site directly and was surprised to find that my DOB was not present as well. It appears that the VO2 MAX info being displayed in the Android app is based on the incorrect web site info which somehow has me set as being 20 years younger than I actually am which explains why it thinks the lower number is worse than it actually should be for my proper age group.
I updated the info on the Garmin Connect web site and synced my watch however the VO2 MAX section on the web site is still showing the incorrect age bracket. Do I have to wait now until after I do another recorded Walk Activity in order for the VO2 MAX data to be properly updated again?
Hmm... looks like it didn't take properly on the web site the first time. Did it again and refreshed the VO2 MAX web page after syncing to watch via GCM, now it properly shows my age group.
Arghhh... Just checked the GCM app and now it is showing the out of whack web site settings. Is it really this hard to synchronize the DOB data properly between the VA3 watch, GCM app and Garmin Connect web site?
What system is FirstBeat using to determine HRmax? I have a very low HR for a 37 year-old (LTHR around 161bpm) and my Garmin Edge 1030 is definitely being way too generous with the VO2Max values. It doesn't look like I can enter my max HR into my profile on Garmin Connect either, which would improve the accuracy of the estimate.
Ah, in the device settings...thanks. I wonder why that isn't in the general user settings? Well my Max HR has been set fairly accurately on all my recording devices, but I'm still unsure if it's used instead of a generic age-based estimate.
