Downloading Garmin Connect history to Fenix 5s

I'm a triathlete and get data from non-Garmin sources into Connect (Zwift, Wahoo, TrainerRoad, etc.) Given that the 5S now does so much analysis onboard, is there a way to get non-Garmin device files downloaded from Connect History into the watch? Would be nice to do recovery times, fitness levels, etc. based on ALL workouts, not just those captured via the watch.
  • It is not possible to 'move' an activity to the watch. I recommend that you record all activities on your watch and delete them if you do not want them to sync to GC.
  • jeheigel, absolutely not, especially since you expressly want to leverage the capabilities Garmin licensed from Firstbeat and apply them to workouts for which the data source is not a thus licensed Garmin device. You may see them all as your workouts, and such things as fitness level an attribute to you as an athlete, but I doubt any commercial provider of fitness technology is prepared to regard you holistically as a person, instead of a customer who bought some stuff that entitle you to utility and benefits within a very confined scope. (Different commercial providers then get to ‘partition’ the aggregate of your wants as a consumer, and each sell you a little piece of the solution, with or without overlap or conflicts.)
  • I guess my question goes back to the fact that it “appears” a lot of the same analysis I’d expect on the watch is already being done in Garmin Connect on non-Garmin ecosystem data. Isn’t the pulling the GarminConnect non-Garmin device data back to the device simply an extension around portability? I’m not a fan of walled gardens, but it’s hard when the walled gardens get compelling (I’m looking at you Apple.)
  • jeheigel, as far as I'm aware, Garmin Connect does not perform any processing for determining Recovery Time, Aerobic Training Effect, VO[SUB]2[/SUB]max, Training Load or any other metric that uses Firstbeat's algorithms; it only reports what a licensed Garmin device (with particular Firstbeat features) registered against a Garmin Connect account has calculated locally and uploaded.

I'm neither a fan nor an opponent of walled gardens; they are a commercial reality, I understand why they exist, and I work either with them or around them as best I can, while accepting that as a consumer it is never up to me to insist of satisfying all my wants (let alone at the least cost to myself).
