Intensity minutes not accumulating

I've had an issue yesterday and today concerning accumulation of intensity minutes, and it doesn't seem to make any sense to me. I'm using a Fenix 5S with a Garmin chest strap.

I did a bike ride yesterday. The ride lasted 64 minutes. I spent 55 minutes in heart rate zone 3 and 5 minutes in heart rate zone 4. At the end, I had accumulated zero intensity minutes for the activity.

This morning, I went out for a 61 minute ride an pushed a bit harder. I spent 34 minutes in heart rate zone 3 and 25 minutes in heart rate zone 4. At the end of it all, I only had 12 intensity minutes accumulated for the activity.

For reference, i went for a ride using the same setup last week. I had no issues with that ride, where a 1 hour ride with 45 minutes in zone 3 and 15 in zone 4 yielded 55 intensity minutes.

Anyone have a clue as to what's going on here?
  • I had the same issue for weeks. I would do a 5K run at an 8 minute mile with my heart rate in Zone 3 and 4 for the majority of the run, then I would follow it up with 30 minutes of calisthenics. I found out that at some point I had changed my Activity Class from a 3 to a 5 and all of a sudden my intensity minutes dropped off the radar. I lowed it back down to a 1, and found my IMs were going through the roof. So I put it at a 3, and for me it seems to have been a more accurate representation of when I work out.

What was frustrating the most, was when I asked customer service, I was told all sorts of things, but mostly that I needed to work harder.

Try adjusting your AC and see if that works.
  • I would, but indoor cycling on a trainer this morning (10 minutes in zone 3, 22 in zone 4) gave me 31 minutes.

    This makes absolutely no sense.
