Default Starting Point for Course Planning

It would be really good if every time I plotted a new course on Garmin Connect (which I do 5-6 times a week), it didn't open the map centred on Garmin's HQ in the US, but instead at the point I'd previously used as my start point (as, I think, it used to do). I appreciate that not everyone starts every ride from the same point, but even less start every ride from Garmin HQ.

Every other map-based site I use seems to use this behaviour by default, so I'm not sure why Garmin decided not to.

  • OK, looks like this could depend on workflow. I have a courses "tile" on my dashboard, and I create a new course by clicking the '+' button at the top of that tile which takes me to Garmin HQ. However, if I do what you do (i.e. select Training>Courses from the sidebar), it takes me to a zoomed out view of the world. I suspect that if my only courses/activities were in the UK, it would be zoomed to that, but as I've also got courses as far away as Seattle, I think it starts with this very zoomed-out view just to capture the spread of all my courses.

So, at least I've found a way of not starting at Garmin HQ every time, but it would be good if I could start zoomed in on my home location - as it is I'll still have to type in my postcode or click away to get there.

Yeah, you get a zoomed out map centred on Birmingham
  • Default Starting Location always in Kansas for me (Homelocation is in midwestern Germany though). Utterly annoying...
