exactly - how come Garmin doesn't provide that? the reports are completely useless. It looks like Garmin is intentionally restricting display of this data to 'leave space' for the likes of Strava & Co (which are paid services - could Garmin be receiving financial kickbacks?)

Strava and alikes pay license fees for the use of Garmin's API. They often offer features not available in Garmin Connect, reducing so the development costs on the side of Garmin, that can then rather focus on the development of their hardware, than scaling up their software team enhancing the GC interface. That's the exact purpose of the 3rd party aftermarket, so I would not really call it "kickbacks" - that's a term rather used for the corruption. And since Garmin is not financed from public funds, there is no reason accusing them from some kind of corruption.
