Cycling %VOmax not showing up on GC

I have been using VAHR and since november VA3... and I just got the Edge 1000. The main type of exercise I do is to ride on a bike, I was curious that the VOx never showed up so thought may be the VA was not enable to do so, but now that I have the Edge 1000 I still cannot see it.

What can I do to fix the situation?
  • Did you connect a heart rate monitor and a power meter to the Edge 1000 when recording your rides?
  • Did you connect a heart rate monitor and a power meter to the Edge 1000 when recording your rides?

Only heart rate monitor. It supposed to be enough, since the VA3 has the option to show it, and it cannot support a power meter.
  • Says who that a heart rate monitor alone is supposed to be enough for estimating VO[sub]2[/sub]max for cycling? Not Garmin and not Firstbeat.

It's time you get your facts straight and recalibrate. Your explanation of “since the VA3 has the option to show it, and it cannot support a power meter” only shows your own misunderstanding of how things work.
  • Well, I don't understand... how can the VA3 measure VO2 max but not Cycling VO2 max.... normal VO2 max does not require any power meter for your feets and steps..
  • @Vallecino: Look up the various posts by HermanB from Firstbeat, e.g.
the analysis functions in part by placing your internal workload (how hard your body is working) derived from heartbeat data into the context of your external workload. In the case of cycling, your external workload is measured by the number of watts you are producing. When you are running, this external workload comes from your running speed (GPS).

The calculation works by placing your effort (derived from heartbeat data) into the context of your external workload - which can be expressed as either movement speed for running/brisk walking, or watts provided by a power meter for cycling activities.

Just to be clear, no, you as the customer/user have no say as to whether using speed (derived from GPS readings or otherwise) as a proxy or estimate of cycling workload is good enough for the calculations; Firstbeat and Garmin get to decide how it works, you just have to be informed, and choose whether to accept the limitation (by either forgoing VO[sub]2[/sub]max estimates for cycling or use a device paired and connected to an external power meter) of the particular Garmin device model, or not accept the limitation and choose not to buy or use that device model.
