Garmin Etrex and Geko 201, not showing up as drive.

Hello,

I have an early Garmin Etrex and Garmin Geko 201. I had not used either device in about 12 years. I decided to check out Geocaching again so I got the devices out and looked them over. Both powered up fine. The old power/data cords are out dated and do not have the extra port I needed to connect to my Dell PC. I am running windows 10.

I purchased a USB data cord from Amazon. One of the few I could find. With this cord I was able to successfully update the software on both the Etrex and the Geko via the WebUpdater software available through Garmin. This was a sign that the cable seemed to work okay.

When I plug the units in to my PC's usb port I get the sound/chimes from my PC that it recognizes a device has been plugged in. My problem is that neither device shows up in my folders. Nothing changes in my drives and they never show up as a drive. I have tried rebooting and plugging them back in. Powering them off and back on and still neither will show up as a drive.

Is this a cable issue even though they were both successfully updated through Garmin WebUpdater?

  • Older devices don't show as usb drives, so what you're seeing (or rather not seeing) is normal. Please note that this forum is about the app Connect and nothing to do with your query, please direct any other issues to Product Support or post in relevant forums.
