Possibility to create custom training plans

Looking at past topics in the form, it seems as if requests for a possibility to create own's own customs training plans have been around for a while but apparently were never taken up by Garmin? Are there are any major technical obstacles ....? I can't be the only one who'd want to easily upload his weekly / biweekly training routine without being required to drag ever single workout to the calendar over and over again..?

I personally vote for this features.. i mean something like, maybe you can create custom crossfit training activity?
  • regenhund If you take an existing Training Plan (from Garmin) and add your workouts into that then remove the Garmin workouts you then have your own Training Plan that you can shift en-masse - it's a bit of a hassle but it does work

I would also like this option
  • +1 on this. I'm currently doing couch 2 5k and it would be great to add that as a training plan. Even better would be the ability to share or search other user's custom training plans so I could potentially find an existing c25k plan instead of entering it all myself.
  • just a basic functionality like export / import training plans, copy within calendar, share with friends would be appreciated

For Couch to 5k, try this: https://apps.garmin.com/en-GB/apps/a1eb20b5-5caf-4f87-a196-f28283dcdbbd
  • There is the Strength Workouts in https://connect.garmin.com that you can define your training plan, copy/download/share/etc.. so its a great idea!

But to my surprise is only for the Fenix 5. (just got a 3HR last week). :-(

The only good news is that Customer Service replied with the following which is the how-to for creating custom training:
Note: Strength Workouts are not the same as a way to capture a user defined activity...

Anyway, I thought I could share with everyone:

I'm sorry, the Strength Workouts in Garmin Connect are compatible only with the fenix 5 watches.
The fenix 3 series of watches are preloaded with many activity applications, but do not cover all possible activities. Custom activities, such as Strength Training[SUP]1[/SUP], can be created on the watch to capture the activity. [h=3]Creating a Strength Training Activity[/h]
    • Hold the UP button to open the main menu
    • Select Settings
    • Select Apps
    • Select + Add New
    • Select Str. Training
    • Choose a color
    • Select Custom
    • Select Strength
    • Select Use Default
    • Select GPS Off
    • SelectEdit Settings
    • Set Data Screens
    • Set Alerts
The custom Strength Training activity is now ready to use. [h=3]Suggested Data Screen setup for the Strength Training[/h]
    • Screen 1: 2 Fields; Timer, Calories.
    • For the fenix 3 HR, or if a heart rate monitor is used: HR Gauge
These steps can be used for creating other custom activities, such as Ellipticals or Stair Climbers.
[SUP]1[/SUP]The fenix 3, and fenix 3 HR, do not support Strength Training Workouts created with Garmin Connect.

    Thank you for choosing Garmin,

  • MrGG, I'm afraid you misunderstand what a ‘training plan’ is, in the context of this discussion thread. We aren't talking about reusable single ‘custom’ workouts (in whichever discipline) that the user can create in Garmin Connect, then send to his/her registered device, on which to execute whenever.

Sorry for that.. just trying to help.
  • +1 - This would be great. I like the credibility of the Garmin plans, but it would be great to also be able to upload my own training plan and/or create a custom plan
