GARMIN Rant: Programmed obsolescence

Hello
I own a GPS Garmin 1340 which dates from 5 years ago, already last year when I wanted to
Updated map I had a problem... The GPS would not restart normally.. Short
It's back in order.
This year I want to refresh the map again, it works well in a first time and Bing... Unable to restart the GPS (I stay stuck on the home page)
I take a look at the forums and I'm flabbergasted to see the impressive number of people who are in my case:
-their GPS works perfectly for years no PB and by chance,
At the time they do a map refresh... boom... GPS planted...
I contact the SAV: GPS too old to be repaired blah blah.... brief change GPS Sir
We have a brand new!!!
Is it possible to appeal to the courts a "class action" in French?
It's crazy the number of people in this case it's like Garmin when shifting maps
Integrated a virus to crash GPS over 4-5 years!!!!
I'm not especially paranoid... but to see the forums I still feel that Garmin is really not clear in this story.
If other people have remarks, lighting to do about it I am taker
  • Technology ages. Software changes. Processors slow. It's not necessarily planned obsolescence but the natural way of things with technology.

Good luck with your class action.

For interest, take a look at what 's happening to Apple and the battery issue/fiasco with iPhone 6/6S
  • This forum is about Connect so I'm closing this thread. There are no forums here for issues like this but you could try their FaceBook and Twitter ones.
  • Garmin has built-in obsolescence and I am furious! I have an S2 golf watch in perfect condition that I can now put into the trash.... it no longer finds my golf course and I can't update anything. I called my local golf shop and they confirmed that this is what Garmin does in order for people to purchase a new watch!!!!!!!!! They know they make the best watches and take advantage of it.

Yes, but 10 years after release date for the Approach S2 is quite a long time, especially when comparing to other leaders in the tech hardware industry.

I would suggest also ringing up Garmin Product Support to get their side of this. If you're in the US, call or chat options work quite well in my experience. Might be the same outcome, but certainly worth a try. Alternatively, you can send an email to [email protected]

  • Thak you for responding. While the release date might have been 10 years ago, this model was sold for several years and I purchased mine about 7 years ago. When I put S2 in the support section of the Garmin website, the response is that there it NO support for this model. It is clearly a decision by Garmin to stop allowing us to use this watch so we purchase a new one. Shame on them for that..... hardly anything in that watch will be recycled.
