Difference between Hiking and Climbing

Hello,

Can anybody explain to me what's the difference between the Hiking and Climbing activity?

If you were to go for hiking in the mountains, what would you choose? I'm puzzled since I haven't found out any distinct difference between those two.

Cheers
  • Normally the different is for vlimpong you use your hands and arms. If you hike you can easily text or drink or do whatever you wamt with your hands.

If its spmething different at fenix i dont know. But a guess is that high is more visible at climbing, for exampöe meters per hour or feet per min.

Not sure. My GUESS is that it's just what the default data screens show you. That said, it used to be that the only difference between activities was unimportant (relatively) things like data screens. So it didn't REALLY matter if you chose "Bike" or "MTB". Now, that's no longer true and I found out the hard way. At some point, "Bike" started doing some sort of automatic "helping" of your routing by snapping to roads when GPS accuracy was low. Which is BAD when you're doing MTB and not actually on the road near your trail.

Given that, I'd LOVE if Garmin could publish a document that details fundamental differences like this between activities to let us know if it even matters which we choose and why. Because in some cases it means even if I'm doing a ride with only a LITTLE bit of trail, I want MTB. But it would be nice to know if my idea of "climbing" and "hiking" are pretty much the same that I can just customize my screens for one of them and stick with that.

Thanks for trying to clarify it. Best would be to do the same exercise both with climbing and hiking respectively. I just don't know whether I'd have time for it.

+1 especially which sensors it can/cannot record in what mode.
  • I've ask them about it and they still do not have any documentation to share :(
