Hiking not included in walking?

If I classify an activity as "hiking" it won't include the distance in the walking category? seems strange to me, anybody know if that's true, or i've done something to screw it up. I could simply change the activity type from hiking to walking and it would be included, but I'd rather be able to keep it more accurate, and more easily identifiable when looking back at activities.

Just for walking goals, it'd be nice for the hiking category to be included, since its still walking...

Thanks
  • I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Garmin to do that.....that would really be confusing, and they would mess it up for sure.

Of course I'm not waiting for them to include Hiking in Walking either. No need here to worry about seperation of the two.

  • Why don’t the hiking activities count in the several challenges that include “walking”? I hike a lot but can’t earn any points out of these activities when I register them with “hiking”. It’s frustrating. Can you please update the software so that both hiking and walking count for the same challenges? Thank you!

  • I absolutely agree! I don't understand how hiking isn't counted as walking. I get having them as separate activities for tracking, but they are both walking and should count towards challenges. There are several types of biking activities that count toward cycling challenges, why not the same with walking?

  • I decided a long while ago to abandon Hike app. All my walking/hiking apps are copies of Walk app even the one named Hike. :-) Before doing that the native Hike app has to be renamed "Sh*t" or any equivalent.

If Garmin itself does not like Hike app and in GCM IOS hiking activities are not shown either under walking activities, nor as separate activities then why the heck should I love or respect Hike app at all?
