Connect Nokia/Whitings scale to Garmin Connect

Hi. I have seen various old posts about issues related to connecting the scale to Connect. Has there been any solutions for this or is Connect mainly designed for Garmin scales?

I did some more troubleshooting on this. Actually, now if you go to the "Daily Summary / Calories In/Out" tab, press there the "Log Calories in MFP" in a bottom of the screen and come back from MFP to GarmingConnect the weight finally appears to GC. But still, this is kind of a workaround in my mind. It requires less key presses to just to record the weight manually :)
  • I have a Withings scale connected to MFP and and MFP connected to Garmin Connect... a new issue started happening in the last week.

I will weigh myself and see the value in MFP.. and then at some point GC will over write the value in MFP instead of MFP adding the new value to GC.

It is like GC takes the vale from the day before and makes it the weight for the next day and then will write that back to MFP.

Is there any way to control the direction of data between syncing partners?

Now this what brohrich discribes above happened to me as well. I don't know how these apps handle timestamps before syncing the data fields, but in my opinion GC shouldn't copy the previous day's weight value to the current date during that day. It should only happen day after if value is not synchronized or manually added. Doing it immediately when you open the app cause this to happen if the app has not managed to get the value from other app yet. It is a bug in GC in my mind.

The best solution would be the possibility to define sync directions as brohrich asks.To work perfectly this option should be in each app using common data. Then you would have an option to define the master source for all the values.
  • Jari brohrich I don't believe there is any way to control the direction of data between the apps. So to troubleshoot, all I can think to suggest is checking the timezone settings for the scale (done in the Nokia app by scale location I think), MyFitnessPal, and Garmin Connect. They should all be the same. It sounds to me like one of them is off possibly causing data / timestamp confusion.

jlgranth , all good suggestions, but I have checked them as a first thing. And they are correct and the same in all the systems. I think this is simply a bug in GC as for me it looks it is the origin of the wrong data. You can easily see it when you open the GC. It copies quite immediately yesterday's weight to the today's weight value. And most probably it gets the time stamp from that moment as it is shown as today's value? Then, when your weight from scale is from the same day but earlier, it gets wrongly replaced by this GC yesterday's value with wrong time stamp. As I mentioned in my earlier post, yesterday's value shouldn't be copied to today's one at all in GC.
  • Jari It very well may be a bug... But it is strange that this is working properly for me, but not for you. One more thing I would try is to delete the weight entries from today and perhaps the last couple of days from both Garmin Connect and MyFitnessPal. Then see if your next weigh-in on your Withings scale, presumably tomorrow, propagates correctly. My thinking is that if Garmin Connect doesn't have a "yesterday's weight" to copy, then it might stop doing that.

Our thinking and troubleshooting have exact the same path :), done that as well. And unfortunately it won't help, GC just copies the previous existing one to the today's value at the first sync. Previous day stays empty. This is of course not so big deal as luckily Nokia scale keeps the correct values. But again, would be nice to get if working...

Quite why all these manufacturers have to make this so hard is mystifying...why not sync all data to a central repository (like Google Fit) and let us decide which data to sync out as our primary source for all other apps, it's infuriating.

Anyway, I sync weight data from Nokia/Withings to FitBit (and Google Fit plus a 3rd party app) and from FitBit to MFP, then into Garmin Connect...if that's of any use to anyone.
  • Came across this thread as my Withings/Nokia weight measurements weren't syncing, and though MFP was linked it wasn't transferring my Calories IN to GC, nor my weight. For what it's worth I solved my issue by disconnecting/reconnecting my MFP from GC.

I disconnected first from the MFP website (APPS/My Apps in the lower right corner/GC/Disconnect) and 2nd in the iOS app (GC/More/Settings/3rd Party Apps/MyFitnessPal/Disconnect). It gets confusing if you haven't done it for a while, exactly where the apps are linked (Nokia, iOS Apple Health, MFP or Garmin). After looking around I confirmed that my MFP and Nokia accounts were linked directly and updating, but found I had to disconnect MFP & GC from both MFP and GC. That may only have been because I disconnected first from the MFP site. Had I disconnected from within the GC App, it may have disconnected globally. Point being, I'd double check both apps to make sure that MFP has fully disconnected. Then when that's confirmed, close GC completely on your device, open it again, and reconnect MFP (GC/More/Settings/3rd Party Apps/MyFitnessPal/Connect). That's what worked for me. Calories IN and Weight measurements are syncing again.

Another step I took for good measure is I reviewed the iOS Apple Health app to make sure that only Nokia/Withings was sending weight measurements to the iOS Health app, and confirming that GC wasn't trying to pull weight from iOS Health. It was all rather convoluted, but appear to be working now.
  • This has been working truly without a single issue for years. Then on about June 28, 2018 or so, Connect stopped getting weight data or is not displaying it. Anyone else see the same phenomenon?
