Bike Workout notes or add cadence to workout view in Edge 820

I'm pretty sure that a lot of us training with power meter would also need a cadence target during intervals. For example, during the winter I have to build up my strength so I have to meet a certain power range at a certain RPM. Every time I train I forget about that RPM value, also because the intervals are often quite a lot. I understand there is no possibility either to edit the workout view of my edge 820 to add cadence range neither there is the option to add a third target to a workout phase.

Having the feature to specify a TIME + POWER RANGE + RPM RANGE targets and to see those values in the workout view would be fantastic.

As a second, I guess easier, option, it would be good to use the "step notes" feature to write down the RPM RANGE. Currently, while building my workout, I fill in the RPM the the notes field, but the device is not showing those notes. A data field would be perfect, so I would create a custom workout page that would include the target power, current power, current cadence, lap time and very important notes.

Having the feature to display step notes or at least workout note on the 820 would be much appreciated.

My Fenix 5x is actually capable of displaying the notes, so I'm arguing why this couldn't be achieved also on the 820.

Another solution, would be to release the remote display feature on the 820, hoping that it would be possible to send the notes field from the F5x to the 820.

Thanks for reading and crossfingers....
  • Crazy that this doesn't exist really. Definitely second this request!
  • Would love to get people to write in to request these features at https://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/. Thanks.

Hey Il Pres, have you found a solution to this yet? Any Connect IQ apps that might do this?
  • Noticed that Training Peaks now supports creating workouts with primary target (like power) and secondary target (like cadence). Does anyone know how to show these targets on the Garmin device?
  • If you give a look to the supported devices chart on the training peaks site, you'll note that the 820 doesn't provide the cadence target compatibility. I've pushed the feature request through the link you have posted above sometime ago. Nothing is moving though, as expected. I don't think the 820 will have a firmware update in the future. Maybe a new unit is coming. Also the 1030 doesn't provide this feature, if I get it right. So I'm pretty negative on this.

As a workaround, I've created a custom "training view" showing the 3s power + cadence and other data, like time to next step. To remember the values, I've installed the RACE NOTES IQ field, where I write down the training notes. It is far to be conformable, especially to manually insert the notes in the plugin, but at least it's something.
  • Anything change with the new Edge 830?

  • Don't think so  I have Edge 1030 and would love to have cadence target and actual on workout display. There's plenty screen space.
