Upgrade to Nougat (Android 7.0) and Garmin bluetooth won't wonnect

I upgraded my Samsung A5 phone from android 6 to 7 and now Garmin connect struggles to connect with my vivoactive 3.

I have factory reset the watch and now it won't even pair, it sometimes tries and then gives up, the code pops up on the watch to establish the pairing but disappears before you can blink. and then connect reports it as failed.
This is more than likely an Android Nougat (7.0) issue but I was wondering if others have seen it connecting to their Garmin devices?

Incidentally my edge 25 can still connect with no issues.

No problem connecting my Galaxy S7 Edge running Android 7.0 and my vivosmart HR+

I've the same issue with my golf watch Garmin S60 and my Samsung A3 running Nougat.
Did you find a fix to pair successfully the watch and the phone?
