Vivoactive 3 not syncing

Hi all - Is anyone having an issue syncing their VA3? My activities are syncing fine with the desktop Garmin Connect (and my IOS mobile app) but there are apparently updates that aren't syncing. I've tried deleting and re-installing Garmin Connect on my desktop but still won't upload the updates. I tried with my IOS mobile app and same thing (x-ref this question in that forum). Thanks~

I am having the same issue. When I tried to update HR zones and Personal Settings, they seem to fail to synch back to the watch. The only indication I have of this within the iOS Garmin Connect is “More” -> “Garmin Devices” and then a red exclamation mark beside my device. Using the Garmin Connect web app, I do see I have pending “synch(s)” (?) from the device drop down menu (top right).

Activities, steps, etc synch FROM the watch to the iOS app, but details do not synch backwards. This is incredibly frustrating!
  • Same issue here. Last 2 GC updates will not update device settings FROM GC to devices - both my VIVOACTIVE 3 and EDGE 520 can send data to GC but cannot receive data from GC. I am on a Samsung Galaxy S7 with Android 7 - so it's not limited to IOS or desktop apps.

I'm having the same issue. Vívoactive 3, OnePlus 3, Android 8.0.0, Garmin Connect Mobile 4.1.8.

Looking in "Settings", "Device Sync Audit" in Garmin Connect Mobile I get logs that indicate successful upload but failed download, which matches the behaviour I'm seeing (log included below).

Last night I tried using Garmin Express to sync, with similar results. I don't have access to those log files right now but I noticed that the failure seemed to be happening around the time it tried to download GPS ephemera. As with GCM it was getting a 500 error from the server.

I am having the same issue too. Soo frustrating. I've tried doing everything from as user standpoint. Uninstslling, reinstalling, factory reset etc.. Now some previously compatible widgets are no longer available and compatible from Garmins store :|

I have the galaxy s8 with VA3, also had an hour of pairing issues after uninstslling the app. This all happened with the last Garmin Connect app update.

That sounds like a different problem, the original problem in this thread was that pairing works fine but syncing only works in one direction. The watch can upload to Garmin Connect but fails to download new settings, etc.

Judging from the logs I have it seems to be a server problem on Garmin's side. It worked fine until Wednesday night, then my first sync on Thursday morning only upload worked.

I contacted support but they just emailed me some generic links about how to connect your watch.

  • After messing with this for several hours yesterday, I figured out how to fix it. I will post this as a stand-alone thread as well.

I'm almost certain I had a third-party app, widget or data field that was breaking my sync. If you have any third party apps installed, this may be your problem as well. The only way to fix this that I've found is from the web app. In the web app, click on the icon in the top right that lists your devices. If there are any pending items to sync, there will be a blue dot. Click the blue dot and it will list things waiting to be synced to your device. You can try deleting on the apps and widgets listed, or just cancel everything. After this you can try uploading your apps, widgets and data screens one at a time until you determine which one caused the failure.

That said, it would be nice if something came up like "sync failed due to x failing to sync, would you like to remove this item?" instead of a generic "sync failed" and confusing list of data in the sync audit.

    Hope this solves your issues.

Unfortunately it's all settings and goals in my case, so no third party stuff involved. That might be useful information though, in my emails with support.

  • Give it a try anyway - I only think it was a third part app, it could have been some bogus setting that I entered or a setting that got corrupted between my entry and the server. Delete all the pending updates, sync again, then re-do the settings changes if the sync completes.

I had the same sync issue where the device shows a red exclamation error in Connect App/Settings. VA3 shows connected in iOS Bluetooth settings & Connect will sync data fine but no settings, Connect IQ Apps, or updates will sync. Connect App/Settings/Device Settings also can not be accessed & gets an error. Garmin Connect Web also can not access Device Settings & gets an error.

    Workaround:
    - deleted VA3 under Devices in iOS Connect App
    - quit out of Connect App
    - made sure to "Forget This Device" vivoactive3 in iOS Bluetooth Settings
    - run Connect App
    - did VA3/Settings/Phone/Pair Phone

Once paired again, syncing worked fine. Data wasn't lost but had to rename my VA3 device from default again.
