The 60CSx uses the Garmin USB protocol by default. If your unit is configured for some other protocol, or is in mass storage mode, Mapsource won't see it.
Try putting the unit in mass storage mode to confirm that the USB port and cable are ok.
putting it in mas storage changes the screen on the device but does nothing to the pc. I've tried different usb ports with similar results. Is the cable bad? what should I see on the pc?
Could be a bad cable (have another one for some other device?) or unit USB port. In mass storage mode you should get a drive letter for the unit's microSD card (present or not).
