Been following this thread for several months after contacting garmin about allowing cronometer to export food data to it, and see that garmin are just ignoring us all.
MFP is not fit for purpose. GARMIN…
Yes, it is likely that Cronometr would have to pay some license fees to have the access to the same API functions as MFP uses for sending the data to Garmin. Still, it is Cronometer who has to take the initiaive first. Do not expect Garmin actively and free of charge offering this option to all avaiable 3rd parties (there are hundreds of them). For Garmin, any interface to a 3rd party means only additional problems and support expenses, so it is comprehensible that they prefer exclusive agreemens, or partners sufficiently covering the extra cost.
I just sent a support ticket to cronometer on same. It is frustrating because MFP is nowhere near as good as Cronometer and it also helpls with employee incentives to get points (sending in food you eat but there is no way I am going to log food on two different apps.
I see in the Cronometer Support is stating that they would like to work with Garmin. But Garmin is refusing. Here is the note from January 26, 2020.
Hi JennfromOregon,
We have looked into exporting calories from Cronometer to Garmin, unfortunately they are not interested in working with us at this time. It would be great if our users could contact Garmin and let them know this is something you want. Maybe we can convince them together!
Garmin should sort it out and work with Cronometer. My Fitness Pal has gone down the drain, their nutritional values are incorrect most of the time, and the site/app keep on faulting (items disappear if you update them, constant not-found errors, and more and more errors). Cronometer is far superior, but we need garmin to work with them.
I also would like to import calories from Cronometer to Garmin. i find it hard to understand why this ius not possible.
I am surprised this isn't allowed. When I bought in into the Garmin ecosystem, I didn't expect to be signing an exclusivity agreement with MyFitnessPal. This might be a deal breaker when I inexorably upgrade from my Fenix 5 X to another device.
Please allow Cronometer to write calories to Garmin Connect!
MFP is owned by UnderArmour, & they probably have a cross-licensing deal with Garmin. Cronometer is just a health-data company - which has incidentally made it clear they don't intend to compromise customer data to make a killing, & that in turn reduces the likelihood Garmin will be interested in working with them.
So while this would be wonderful (or ftm even just a bulk import capability), I think it's unlikely, for similar reasons.
Adding to this. What about allowing individual API access and we can find a way to automatically sync the data ourselves? This is a pretty disappointing day 1 moving away from FitBit.

You (or whoever else) can apply for the API access here: https://developer.garmin.com/
I would also prefer to use cronometer. MFP isnt as precise
