What to do? ... You've met the max distance for Specialized Crosstrail

So I recently purchased a new bike ... a Specialized Crosstrail.
I added this under gear and the Garmin Connect chose a default max distance of 644K.
I've now exceeded this distance (967KM) and I see receive the message "You've met the max distance for Specialized Crosstrail".

My questions:
- What should I now do, to remove this warning?
- How is the max distance of 644KM determined?
- What should I have done at 644KM ? ... give the bike a service? If so, what actions do I take in Garmin connect?

I only see the option to edit, remove or retire?

Should I retire and then add the bike again ... seems odd that there is no reset/acknowledge the message option, or even a "Carried out service button".

Cheers

It's an arbitrary decision by Garmin. The distance of 644km is very strange and seems more suited for running shoes, but is suggested by the mobile app for any kind of gear. And only the mobile app sets it at 644 km by default. When you add gear on the web version of Garmin Connect there is no such default. Anyway, the right thing to do was to set the limit to a more appropriate value or disable it altogether when adding new gear.

Nothing. This is just a suggestion that that piece of gear (bike in this case) has reached it's life span (which for a bike is of course quite absurd) and should be considered for retirement.

Should I retire and then add the bike again

No, don't do that. The right thing to do would be to reset the distance limit value to something more appropriate, but I don't know if it's possible with the mobile app.

You simply cannot. (See this thread.)
  • Using the Pc version of Garmin connect i've changed the distance for my bike to a 1000 miles & just actually changed it to a 1002 in the mobile app

You can log in to the web version, and the edit the bike. DElete the number for max distance and save. The limit is then removed. Remember to sync your device before it shows the update.
