    I have the same problem with best times in running & cycling, Garmin needs more than a forum, it really needs a decent help desk to resolve and learn from it’s problems! I also believe there is no way that my efforts always come short of calories burnt compared to any other devices. I use a Forerunner 620, Strava and Apple Watch
  • I have Fenix 5X. A excellent watch. Love it. But as you say,connect must be better.

    It is also the same problem with steps, doesn’t update record.
  • Did you edit the activity in any way
    did you record the activity with a native profile or an app

  • It certainly looks to me that:
    • your Garmin fitness wearable device detected one or more new personal records, upon completion and saving of the timed activity on the device;
    • Garmin Connect was advised, as part and parcel of uploading of the activity record by the device, which personal record(s) could be updated;
    • GC accepted and retained the new personal record(s), as at the time the screenshots were taken, and you have not inadvertently removed them from consideration by editing the Activity Type of the activity record.

    Garmin Connect does not perform post-processing to scan each uploaded activity record for the fastest one-kilometre stretch, one-mile stretch, five-kilometre stretch, etc. within the total distance that was run. If the total distance matches one of the predetermined distances for which personal records are tracked, it may look at the 'timer' in the activity record, to determine if a new personal record has been achieved. In your example, 32'37.1" is not faster than 32'17", which is your 5-km personal record as far as Garmin Connect is concerned; therefore, whether 5.04km qualifies as being close enough to 5km would be an irrelevant question.

    What Strava does or does not do is really neither any of Garmin's business nor Garmin's concern.

    OK. I understand. But does it just count the FIRST mile? Because I didn't run 1 mile the 19 oct, I run 5.04 km....

    If I´ve stoped the activity two minutes earlier then connect would update my 5 k ?
  • A Garmin wearable device with the personal record feature will detect the fastest mile within a longer run. That may be the first 1.61km, or the stretch between 2.84km and 4.45km from the starting point, and so on. In your case on 2017-10-19, it appears your fastest mile was the first mile that you covered.

    If you completed a full 5.00km within 30'28.5" on 2017-10-19, then your f?nix?5X should have (also) detected a new 5km personal record, since 30'28.5" is strictly less than 32'17". I have never relied on the cloud-based Garmin Connect service to detect personal records, that my Forerunner watches somehow failed to detect upon completing and saving the timed activities on the devices, so I really can't say whether GC would have successfully detected a new 5km personal record on 2017-10-19 if you had stopped the activity two minutes and 0.04km sooner.
