No idea how to start/register a cycling activity

Hello everyone - sorry for a potentially stupid question, but I have a major difficulty getting Garmin Connect to start and record and activity. When I'm about to start cycling, I don't see any way in the app to start the cycling activity. After I finish, no cycling activity is shown, however, when I go to calendar view, I see that MoveIQ correctly detected cycling and displayed it there (but it still doesn't show in the main view).

What am I doing wrong?

Setup: VivoSmart HR+ and Garmin Connect on Android

the Vivosmart HR+ doesn't have cycling as an activity, I set mine to Other when i'm going cycling & then change it to cycling in Connect when i've finished my ride

What is the way you "set it up" when you start cycling?

on my vivosmart HR+ i press the button,tap the little man, scroll acros to other and tap that, then tap on outdoor (GPS), when it says ready, just press the button again to start the timer.
