splits for indoor rowing

Is there a way I could assign some standard splits for my indoor rowing workouts uploaded via fit or tcx files? It's done automatically by, for example, Endomondo whereas under the split section of Garmin Connect I see my full workout as the only split instead. My on the water rows are split by 500 m increments, probably because these are uploaded from my VAHR. But uploading a workout from a file results in no splits.

Historically, I used to have non-standard interval splits from structured workouts when I was using my Forerunner 610 to connect to the rowing machine. The watch may have been reading the split data directly from the PM5 computer. It's no longer the case, and asking for a manual split editing (via time or distance) would be probably too much of a feature request, but what's wrong with standard splits? Why aren't there any options to break my workout by 500 m, 1 km, 5 km or whatever sections?
