Why does Garmin hate steps???

I walk, after a walk I like to download the info into a spreadsheet that gives me a load of metrics.
One of the bits of info I need is how many steps I took.
Unfortunately Garmin don't like to apply me to see this info. Yes I can see how many steps I've done in a day but not per activity.
Yes I know I can go to the OLD Garmin Connect page but how long will this be around for?
In the all activity page on NEW Connect i can choose from 12 different stats including 'average stride length' but not how many steps.

On my Vivoactive 3 steps are only seen on the first widget page but if I look at my historic activities no steps stats :(

Garmin --- Please allow me to see how many steps I've taken on a walk.

Interesting, I had not noticed that before. I had to go look at my history, and the number of steps is not listed. I wonder if there is a datafield that could fix this.

There really should be, you can see average stride length but not how many strides you took...
  • You have Average Stride Length = Distance / #number of steps. Since you have two of these = distance, and average stride length then you can calculate the number of steps. as

    # of steps = distance walked / average stride length.

That should be an straight forward calculation in your spread sheet.

    jfw,
True, but if the # of steps is not listed for the activity it becomes a little bit harder to figure.

True enough but as all the Garmin devices record and store steps would it not be easier for that metric to be displayed???
