Benefits from Rep Count function

Greetings. Can someone explain benefits of function Rep Count (calculation of repetitions and weights) during strength training?
In Garmin Connect reports displaing summarise of the "raised" weights, but this indicator without segmentation by exercises or 1RM is useless - https://goo.gl/hZxiMJ

The only benefit that I see is a more precise calculation of the consumption of kcal due to the fixation of time for approach and rest.
What is still useful for the function of the Count?

  • I think the main purpose of the rep count function is keeping an automated log of strength excercises. I do not think it is taken into account in any calculation.

  • What purpose of that counting if you can't use that data? You can't analyze rep count data or some how use them.

In other apps for strength training like Jefit, it is possible to analyze progress by exercise with total and 1RM weight.

Well, I guess it's up to you how you use it. Garmin just logs it for you.
  • 5 years later and they still didn't add anything related to rep max in strength workout. This is a must

  • Not sure what you want to do with rep max, but whatever it is, I recommend that you submit your suggestion at Share Ideas | Garmin

Otherwise, as for the question in the opening post, the reps are used for example when calculating the total weight lifted during the workout as shown then in the activity stats.

And besides that, you can also see statistics of reps for individual exercises in the Reports. So for example you can see how many push ups you did each month during the past year, (and similarly for other exercises and periods).

  • They introduced it for a while now for a few selected exercises, the basics: bench-press, curl, squat, hip thrust and some others.

It's called benchmark exercises that are influenced by your personal records. You get 1rep values, you can manually link it to other variants of the exercise and use it in a pre-planned workout, like use 80% of benchmark (1rep) weight. So this should over time increase automatically as you progress. I still do it manually though (as you also can't setup the steps according to available plates, and I like my numbers precise and don't like manual corrections after exercising, I can't put on 133,3kg).

But there are still no meaningful statistics to evaluate your progress besides those numbers raising on a few selected exercises and you don't get a graph showing their increase over time.

  • But there are still no meaningful statistics to evaluate your progress besides those numbers raising on a few selected exercises and you don't get a graph showing their increase over time.

Check out the Reports section - you get graphs both for the number of reps of certain exercise, as well as the volume (total volume lifted). If you'd like to see anything else, suggest it to Garmin at Share Ideas | Garmin

  • As I mentioned to you before these are not useful values and they aren't even presented in a useful way.

  • Yes, but you did not tell what you are looking for. What numbers are useful, and how do you want to have them presented?

  • Once again:

    1. The Reports section does not evaluate "a few selected exercises". It evaluates all exercises you have logged in your workouts.
    2. You do get a graph showing their increase (in reps and in volume) over time
