Blended 'Training Status' from multiple Garmin devices

I use a Fenix 5 for running & a Edge 820 for cycling. The training status is a great feature which I've now started to seriously use as part of my training analysis. Do any Garmin reps know when we will see Garmin Connect use results from multiple devices to give a blended training status score? Surely this is somewhat easy as all can be calculated on Garmin Connect and not locally on any one device.
  • But the issue we have in this thread is another one - we have issue that when you record activities with 2 Garmin devices, it does not merge properly neither in Garmin Connect nor in the devices.

That may be your issue but it's not the issue of this thread.  The OP clearly states that his problem is with different sports, running and cycling.  I can see why a few people on here might be confused...

We do not speak about different sports! The different sport issue is somehow solved by Garmin and this works if you record just with one Garmin device all the time.

No, the different sports issue isn't solved by Garmin, even when on the same device.  It's not solved for the same sport on the same device either. All that happens is that the estimate from the latest activity overwrites the previous one.

Also, you are wrong that the info doesn't transmit to other devices. It does but it depends on the device and some that are sold as TrueUp compatible aren't.  My Edge 130 for example, only syncs when it's connected via Express but not via Garmin Connect Mobile.  This is a problem with a specific device, however, so it belongs in a thread on that device; that is, not only are you off-topic on this thread you're not even in the write part of the Forum. Perhaps you should read a bit better ;)

I agree with you that Garmin shouldn't be marketing something that does not work, hasn't worked for years and shows no sign of working in the foreseeable future.

  • They just need to add one training load to other...just like Strava (Fitness&Freshness), Training Peaks and many other do...very simple stuff

If you do a training activity with a recovery time of, say, 14 hours and a second activity with a recovery time of 4 hours, your total recovery time is not 18 hours.  It might seem simple to add apples to oranges but I can assure you that the result is generally meaningless. TP and Strava are just misleading people.

  • For WHEN?!!! Unbelievable that Garmin 1) doesn't think about this obvious issue before releasing its devices, 2) doesn't devote the necessary resources to FIX IT. It's been more than 2 years and hundreds of consumer complaints/requests. This is the type of stuff that annoys consumers big time and makes them look at other brands - that they take one for granted, especially when one has several devices, etc., which is when it should be exactly the opposite.

  • I find it odd that Connect does not correctly transfer information from one device to another. For example, my last 3 bike rides have been recorded with the Edge 830. The training load is correctly shown on the Edge status page of Connect, but the training load on the Forerunner page is less. e.g. Edge830 load/Forerunner load: 163/135; 87/69; 123/103. Why does Connect reduce the value of the training load when it converts from the Edge input to the Forerunner page? Both devices use Firstbeat metrics, so why does Connect alter the numbers? Other data (eg recovery time) seems to transfer correctly, I think.

  • having just found this thread and seriously considering adding an Edge 530 to my lineup (along with my current Fenix 6 Pro) this worries me. Is there any news on the timeline for this ?

  • Well, if they were not able to solve the issue in more than 1 year timeframe, I doubt they take it seriously. I was also thinking of buying Edge on top of my Fenix and I am really glad I did not do it! Would be waste of money.

BTW: if I remember correctly there is a feature of projecting data from Fenix to Edge. Now I understand this feature, this is the only way how to use two devices ;(

  • In theory, but the screen data you get is garbage...

  • No clue why it's device dependent... that's kinda the worst possible way to approach this eh?

Make it at least sport or sport-category dependent... taken aside that a accumulated overall value would be least confusing imho.

Having a Fenix6xPro and an Edge530 so I am expecting a state of the art solution guys! Slight smile

  • Out of interest, how many of you have logged the issue with Garmin direct (either phoning their support or logging it via their chat)? This thread has over 5K replies but no movement in years, when I phoned Garmin to log the issue they noted it was a log running issue and that folks were working on it but did mention that the more people to call support and log tickets the more the priority on it would increase.

So this is an ask to this thread / community - if you have the issue - call Garmin and log it in their support. It will only help as they prioritize their resources to work on it.

  • I have certainly logged it. And chased it repeatedly, to the point that it’s “been escalated”. But the reality is that that doesn’t seem to mean much, no one at Garmin gives any indication that they actually care. Originally, I was told it was by design and the first support agent simply wouldn’t accept that it made the metric useless.
