Create Segments with Garmin connect does not work properly

Hi all,

having tried to create some new segments within Garmin connect. I am struggling however, as the process almost always crashed and becomes unresponsive. I have managed to create 1 single segment and it takes several minutes. Compared with Strava the process there is pretty straight and works without any problems. I cannot see any reason why the Garmin tool is so awfully slow or doesn't work either.
Using Win10 with enough "power" for such things, and Google Chrome.

Anyone else having this issue and any suggestions how to solve it??

To describe Garmin's implementation of segments as "flakey" would be overgenerous. The solution to your problems is contained in your post - use Strava.

Thanks Mickw for your reply from which I take this is a known issue. Anyway, if anyone else has another experience or even a solution this would be much appreciated.

mickw46 is on the mark there. Seem to be poorly implemented and flaky beyond belief.

Hi Martin, thanks for commenting.
When you say "no problems" you mean that you don't get error messages (page becomes unresponsive...) and have to wait several seconds after ANY single mouse-click? Because that's exactly my experience with GC and segment creation. Which operating system and browser are your using, if I may ask?

Despite my earlier comment, I've found that creating segments is the one bit of the "Segments" process that works quite well.

The problems arise from issues like: no data over 12 months old; no rank for segments completed many times (data appears for "me only" and ,no this is not a privacy setting issue): rank not on best recorded performance; "padlocked" segments; segments I created not appearing in the segments crossed list; no rank for some segments I created - how is that possible?

Some of these problems disappear for a bit and then re-appear but the rolling deletion of performance data over 12 months old has been continuing for a very long time. I have more than 25 segments that I created in the early days of Garmin segments that show none of my performances (all my performance data is more than 12 months old!)

I have contacted Garmin from time to time about these issues but I have never had satisfactory explanations or problems resolved - hence my suggestion to use Strava

No, no error messages or unresponsive pages, OS is windows 7 & browser is Waterfox

Unresponsive on Mac OS Sierra: Safari and Firefox! After moving one slider it is unresponsive for minutes! On Firefox the message "A web page is slowing down your browser" is displayed. :(:(
