setting resting heart rate

I've been going round and around in the new GC format and can't find how to manually set resting heart rate. Am sure it's there but can someone point it out to me please?
Should be 65 bmp but GC has it averaging out at 89 bpm ;/

    that's the fella - thank you :)
I have set the secondary calculation to % of heart rate reserve with resting heart rate at 65 and max at 185bpm - does this sound like a good general rule or do most people use the lactate threshold calculation?
  • Both the resting HR and the Max are highly individual. For the max HR the best source is from an stress test or VO2Max test where they allow you to go as long as you can. But there are a number of ways of estimating it using a sub max test. Googling will find a number. The 220-age formula is the worst way of estimating it. Both medical and sports specialist will say that it is not accurate, but they still use it. In my case it is about 20 higher than given by that formula.

As for setting HR zones there are more method than Carter has Liver Pills. Depends on the sport and whose training method makes sense you you. Baring a test where you exercise and they take lactate samples there are any number of program that have you do a specific test exercise and use that to figure zones. Joe Friel is on.

:) thanks for the advice. Did some reading om Joe Friel and have switched to lactate threshold and will let the software calc the HR zones for me. As long as I don't forget these are just estimates and not set in stone...
