Cannot export from Garmin Training Center

I've gotten a new Forerunner, and it's great. But I really want to keep the data from my old Forerunner 305--races, runs from other countries, etc. I want to get those runs into Garmin Connect.

However, every time I try to export from the Training Center (version 2.0), whether I try the whole folder or a single workout, the program crashes.

I would love some advice about how to

a) do the export without triggering a crash,
b) updating to Training Center 3, in case that would help (I can't find the download anywhere), or
c) accessing the data on my computer without having to do the export from the Training Center.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

its several years since garmin training center was made obsolete and garmin stopped developing
so i really dont think youll get much help unfortunately
  • It's been a few years since I used Training Center but I still have it on my computer. I just tried exporting a run from 3 years ago and it worked fine. Perhaps, if you can get the setup file, you should try installing it on another PC or alternatively, see if you can do a repair of Training Center from the Control Panel. As I recall, the database needs to be placed in a funky spot (TCAct folder in (Documents & Settings) but should be easily found on your PC.

You didn't say if you're on Windows or Mac but if on Windows try turning on hidden folders and go here:
C:/Users/(User Name)/AppData/Roaming/Garmin/Devices/(Device ID)/History. This is from an old slowtwitch post I found. There should be the .tcx files from your old Forerunner there that you can then import into Connect. Since I just got this from an old post and haven't used Training Center myself in years I don't know if this will actually work but it's worth a try.

If it might help, I have the windows installer from version 3.6.5 and that still works. You cannot export the complete database but you can export one file at a time to GPX format. The database is in SQLlite and there are free open source editors for that. If i was a programmer (am not) you could write a script for that.
My garmin edit is still running for sentimental reasons, there are 600 bike rides in it. And I export the best ones to Strava but to export all, that is too much work.
